About Noa's dishes
Noa's tableware is a line of adapted/inclusive tableware. It can be used by everyone, but its aim is to make life easier for people with capricious hands, whatever the reason (hemiplegia, osteoarthritis, tremors, etc.). My goal is to design functional and pretty pieces that allow everyone to spend pleasant moments at the table, even with grip problems.
How did this idea come to me? Through my personal experience. My son is hemiplegic and autistic and his autonomy at the table was rather limited. At the end of the meal there was as much food on the table as in his stomach. It's not easy to eat with one hand. So I went looking for a solution and what I found on the market was frankly not great. I bought a plate with a small rim on a website specializing in disability. This plate allowed my son to eat more cleanly, but it was plastic, it was ugly and it has aged poorly. This is the kind of tableware worthy of being placed on a hospital meal tray and which makes a “spot” on a pretty table. When I first started making ceramics, I made a stoneware rimmed plate for my son. It was heavy and therefore very stable. Its wide rim made it easy to eat with one hand. My son confirmed.
This experience made me want to go further and develop inclusive ceramic tableware at a professional level. It is an approach that is part of what we call “Care design”, that is to say design that takes care of people. My intention is to make a positive change in the daily lives of people with disabilities or who simply have finicky hands, by offering them beautiful tableware that promotes their independence.
I also believe that it is time to stop stigmatizing people with disabilities. To this end, I intend to offer classic tableware (not adapted) with the same decorations, so that buyers can create mixed services.
I started by making rimmed plates, bouboule bowls, cups with two handles, but I don't plan to stop there!
My son's name is Noa and that's why I called this line of inclusive tableware simply "Noa's Tableware" .
