About BuBu Céramique

Behind BuBu-Céramique there is me, Christine Burel. A Breton woman who fell in love with the Basque Country a long, long time ago... at the end of the last century!

My little personal story

I grew up in a small village in Finistère, between Quimper and Douarnenez. Breton, I love the sea and I have always managed to never stray too far from it. I have been living in the Basque Country since 2012.

Although strongly attracted by artistic professions, I studied science and became a researcher in biology. But I never let go of the pencils and brushes.

I was introduced to ceramic modeling in 2019 by Marie Oliver Nalpas, a ceramist in Biarritz, and it was love at first sight. I decided to go further by learning filming at the Faktoria in Biarritz and it almost became an addiction.

To be able to fully experience this passion, I decided to make it my job. I followed professional training and passed a CAP in ceramic turning, class 2022-2023, at the Faktoria in Biarritz. I then set up my workshop at home and my small business and off I went my kiki!

My approach to ceramics

Ceramics is at the crossroads of everything I love: the manual, the artistic, the creative, while remaining technical and exploratory. This is an extremely broad area where you have to experiment all the time.

My artistic approach is rather instinctive. I don't like to intellectualize what I do. I follow my current desires. It's true that sometimes it can go in all directions, but hey, why limit yourself?

I love drawing and painting and ceramics allow me to add a third dimension. I love creating a room and then decorating it. The difficulty is that you have to work almost blindly because the final result only appears after the second cooking. You have to be very patient. It's not always my strong point, but I'm getting better at it.

My production

I love artistic crafts because it is about producing objects with your hands, your mind and your heart. These objects can then enter people’s lives. that I don't know, and it's quite intimidating... I hope that my ceramics will be useful to them in their daily lives while bringing them pleasure, that of the eyes.

I produce utility pieces in small batches and I take care of the aesthetics because I want them to be pretty. Creating unique decorative pieces allows me to express my creativity and test different types of decor that I can then apply to utilitarian pieces.

I therefore produce tableware, classic or adapted/inclusive (Noa's tableware), including cups, carafes, teapots, bowls, plates, etc. But also decorative ceramics. I hope you find your happiness !
